Event Details

Benjamin Cohen, business and technology correspondent at Channel 4 News, will be joining us on Wednesday 28th January for Fullrun’s Talking Shop.

To say the least, Cohen is not your average technology journalist. In 1998, at the age of 15, he founded the community portal SoJewish.com and became synonymous with the dot.com boom.

SoJewish ended up being sold to AIM-quoted Totally plc in October 2000. For the duration of the transaction, Cohen became the youngest-ever director of a public limited company.

Jon Ronson called him “the American dream, slap bang in the middle of Kentish Town”.

Cohen himself told The Register: "I can remember how rude I could be at times to journalists and people phoning up for advice.”

“Back then, I could be as obnoxious as I liked and people would still come back for more. They had to, I was Benjamin Cohen, the Dot Com sensation."

Cohen’s subsequent career involved launching CyberBritain (which presided over ten disparate sites, including the search engine Hunt4Porn). After studying for a degree in religion, philosophy and ethics at Kings College London, Cohen went on to set up the gay community site Pink News in 2005.

Between 2004 and 2006, Cohen wrote a column on start-ups and e-commerce for the Times.

In August 2006, he made his debut as a correspondent for Channel 4 News. Cohen works across both Channel 4 News At Noon and Channel 4 News (the 7pm edition).
